CERAMICS CAMP

AGES 9-14 | 9am-3pm

A variety of camps for children to immerse themselves in clay studio studies ranging from basic hand building, wheel throwing, and sculpting. Campers will learn a variety of skills designed to fit the camp they are in.  Ceramic focus campers will learn the technical aspects of recycling, slab work, build a simple kiln from a metal trash can and firing pottery in it. All under the guidance of a professional potter and the fire department. Clay adventures offers a beginners taste of experimenting with clay. Sculpting camps have a slight focus on bringing 2D drawings and images of characters into 3D form. 

CERAMICS 1: Intro to Pottery

Build your skills with a week of camp devoted to the pottery wheel. Start by throwing the basic cylinder form and turning it into a functional bowl or vase. Add some character to the plates and cups you will create andAre you a hero or a villain? Can you fly? Are you invisible? Sculpt your arch nemesis, build a disguise and create a story all your own with your new superhero identity. Campers will be able to imagine themselves as superheroes in this week devoted to all things Marvel, DC, and beyond.use every day with interesting surface techniques and glazes.

CERAMICS 2: Raku Ceramics

June 24- July 3

In this extended twoweek camp,  campers will learn techniques from prehistoric clay working methods to the modern work of artistic ceramics, and everything in between. The first week is devoted to developing handbuilding skills, as well as learning technical aspects of clay, includingwhere it comes from and how its used, recycled and turned into a finished piece. During the second week, campers will explore different glazing and firing processes including the building, loading and firing of a traditional Japanese Raku kiln. Precautions are taken so that campers can have a safe and blazingly amazing time!

CERAMICS 3: Mud Monsters

July 8-12

Explore various basic hand building and texturing techniques while creating different creatures from your imagination. Each project will be glazed or painted to make your creature really come to life. This class will cover pinch, coil and slab construction to create a variety of projects from functional work to small sculpture.

Whimsical bird baths, mosaic stepping stones, clay flowers that bloom all summer, or maybe a door to the fairy world? This week of camp focuses on building all things that beautify the great outdoors. Campers will learn basic hand building techniques to coil, pinch and sculpt, making thiscamp perfect for both the beginner looking to learn about clay, as well as the more advanced and imaginative ceramicist!

CERAMICS 6: Thrown and Altered

July 29- August 2

With a basic knowledge of the pottery wheel, campers can take their pots further! Slice them, add to them and build new forms to explore both wheel throwing and hand building at the same time. Build functional pieces as well as sculptural forms and use your imagination to create new and interesting ceramic work.*This is an intermediate level ceramics camp. Prior experience on the pottery wheel is required

CERAMICS 7: Fun With Function

Not everything functional has to be boring, right? A plate is a plate and a bowl is a bowl in this week of camp, campers will learn to make functional things extraordinary! Roll, flatten, pinch, cut, and bend. Use traditional hand building techniques to make pottery that is funky, functional, and fantastic!
