ART CAMPS

Exploring crafting, drawing, painting, clay, 3D construction and more, campers will create an assortment of individual and group projects in each week’s theme, culminating in a showcase at the end of each camp, followed by the unveiling of an installation at our 6th annual Fall Out of Summer Arts Festival in September.

Walk the plank into a week of pirate-inspired art projects. Immerse yourselves in the dark and enchanting world of sunken treasures and life on the high seas.

From Lascaux cave paintings to the Great Pyramids of Egypt, put on your imagination caps and travel around the globe, exploring history and culture through art.

Artists are inspired by their surroundings. From mosaics in subways to sky high murals, using inspiration from city life, campers will paint, sculpt and erect a city from the pavement to the sky.

You can make just about anything with cardboard - from paintings to trees! Imagine the possibilities this week when we work with nothing but cardboard. What happens when you put it in clay? Artists’ Exchange little art camps are designed to capture the imagination of younger campers. Each week’s theme will match our older art camps and projects will be adjusted to match cognitive ability and dexterity of the 5 - 7 year old age group. Campers will explore a wide variety of materials. The size of the scissors may shrink, but not the creative fun in these camps!

LEARN TO THROW
  
Build your skills during this one week intensive camp focused solely on wheel throwing. Spend tons of time on the wheel centering,  throwing basic cylinder forms, learning how to transform them into cups and bowls; do to the nature of this camp not all pieces will be fired.

3 DAYS OF CLAY  
A specialized 3 day camp designed to explore ceramic molds and clay casting, something new for the ceramic student! In this unique camp student will have
the opportunity to use liquid clay and experience the magic of pulling apart two plaster mold sides to reveal the surprise inside.  Casting will also be introduced.

CERAMIC CAMP #1 
A two week camp designed with a focus on ceramics. Under the guidance of a professional ceramics artist, immerse yourself in clay studio studies, from wheel throwing and surface design, including underglazes, glazes and textures, as well as hand building. Learn the technical aspects of ceramics, from recycling clay and slab work to the use of equipment such as the extruder and the proper way to load a kiln.

A new camp designed to fill your child’s day with both ceramic arts and crafts. Each morning campers will be introduced to the wonderful and versatile medium of low fire pottery clay and create away their afternoons using wide variety of craft materials. A themed keeps all projects cohesive. Co-taught by a professional ceramic artist and one of Artists' Exchanges own studio artist. MORE CLAY!

CLAYMATION CAMP
Campers will use their imagination to create a short story and will then make it come to life using clay, and hand crafted sets and props. As a group campers will come up with a story line, and explore the process of working with clay
and photography to create a motion picture.

SHARK WEEK! 
Come join us for the most epic week of the summer, Shark week!!! Campers will spend the week making shark and ocean themed crafts using clay, paint, and other various new and recycled materials. Dive in and explore the deep blue sea with us!

TIME TRAVELERS 
Campers will “travel” throughout time and cultures in their - camp made time machine! To discover art and crafts both functional and ornate. Inspiring days filled with clay and crafts! Camp mornings will be spent  in the ceramic studio building pinch pots, sculptures, and coiled clay pieces. There afternoons will be filled with imitating the crafts of other cultures . Paintings, drawing, mosaics, rubbings, and so much more will send your child on a worldwide cultural adventure!

TEEN THEATRE CAMP # 1:  SETTING THE SCENE: INTRO TO WRITING, DIRECTING AND ACTING  
This is a camp for teens who desire to write, direct and act in their own pieces with friends. We will be providing each young actor with the tools necessary to put on a production with little more than their own creativity and subtle direction. This camp will be heavily based on participation, games and discussion. The direction of the camp in terms of games, exercises will change according to the dynamic and interests of each group. The teens will devise a series of sketch scenes that interconnect through themes, allusions, and jokes. These will be found through physical dialogues and character creation improvisations.

TEEN THEATRE CAMP # 2: CRAFTING A COMPANY 
A first time, hands on, teamwork exploration into every aspect of a professional theatre company. This includes and is not limited to a brief study of production histories, theatrical traditions, Prominent actors from past and present, short scenes, self written monologues, group work sketches and what each role in a company is. Each teen will have an opportunity to rotate and play a key member of a production company. Every day will begin with new Improv games and a touch base meeting. Each day will end with a full group discussion on what was learned, and the applicability for each child in the context of their lives. The final project will be a group written play “opening night”. The ultimate goal for the two weeks is for the newly formed company to walk away with a love for theater, acting, teamwork, and artistic creation.

TEEN THEATRE CAMP # 4: INTRO TO IMPROV 
This camp is designed for teens with a simple love or curiosity about the art of improvisation. There is no prerequisite required, and no prior experience necessary. This camp is to serve as a warm welcome into an ancient tradition. We will explore humor through our own exercises, tons of games, and taped improvisation productions. These taped productions will include the greats such as whose line is it anyway, the groundlings, and improv everywhere. Each teen should walk away with a new ability to craft and categorize types of humor, and play. Finally leading up to the improv comedy show.

3 DAYS OF MUSIC: FUSION MUSIC CAMP   
Fusion camp will bring music from all times and places together exploring their differences and similarities. Campers will start with pop music and have fun with all of their favorite songs, continuing on into other forms of music that they may or may not know. Instructors will demonstrate different instruments and the diversity of their use, and visiting artists will talk about their expertise as well. This camp will offer members of the younger generations the understanding that music can be so much more than what they hear on the radio, in a fun, activity filled environment.

the audience. Students will perform live for
friends and family in an all-ages afternoon
concert on the final day. Some highlights of

    and style workshops
  • Playing in a Band
  • Performing Live
  • Learning about Songwriting
