Sidecar Theater Company presents
Scared of Sarah
by Laura Brienza

February 17-26
Fri, Sat, Sun at 7pm

Directed by Rich Morra

Lily and Sam are expecting their first child, and neither one feels ready: Sam worries about what this means for their bank account, while Lily's troubled relationship with her autistic sister, Sarah, causes her to question their parenting abilities.  When a fire at Sarah's apartment ruins her 30th birthday and brings her into their home, Lily, 28, and Sam, 26, are forced to confront the very real possibility that their child might be autistic.  Splitting its focus between the challenges of parenting a child on the spectrum and Generation Y's complicated love affair with selfishness, Scared of Sarah investigates the fear that sets in when two people make a third.

Tickets $15. Call 401.490.9475 to book.

In the Gallery: Melded Mindscapes

featuring the works of Melanie Teresa Bohrer & Alex Carlisle

Works on display through August 10th.

Alex Carlisle

"I strive to create graphic imagery that expresses space in a way that the viewer has to imagine to understand. Surrealism is a concept that I embrace and try to join with abstraction to create a new visual language. This language attempts to explore physiological and metaphysical atmospheres that surround us everyday. I am interested in architecture and landscape, but I am more interested in what happens in between the materials and the structures that make up a space." Originally from Jamestown, RI, Alex currently manages his Fine Arts career along with two businesses, ASEA Skateboards and Print Designs and Custom Print House. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Printmaking in 2010.

Melanie Teresa Bohrer

"My most recent projects exemplify different states of mind, created during introspective, almost meditative or automatic drawing sessions. The created 'mindscapes' have evolved from mindless doodles to window insights into my ways of thinking, or my perception of daily life as different collisions of mazes, and the interweaving ideas of time and space. Greatly inspired both by Josef Albers' color combination and compositions, I attempt to create prints, not by making a finished plate, but rather by reprinting the same image, thereby constructing a space or architecture, through layering. Hence my work has evolved into a way of mapping, reminiscent of both man made and natural structures, and once the individual abstracted forms are layered, they start depicting intersecting space. Often, the ambiguous scale in the works alludes to the reoccurring theme of microscopic versus macroscopic imagery, which is prevalent in most of my works." Originally from Munich, Germany, Melanie is currently enrolled at the Rhode Island School of Design expecting to graduate June 2012 with a BFA in Printmaking.

Between April and June, monologues were written with each of the individual actors in mind. This July, all one hundred and twenty-seven pieces will premiere over the course of four weekends creating an intricate and fascinating portrait of one mans life.

The government wants him to deny that he wrote the wicked paragraph, in return for which all the charges will be dropped. His dissident friends want him to be a hero and urge him to stand fast. Tortured by internal demons as well as these external ones, Nettles is a badly frightened man, dosing himself with drink and pills while he cowers in his apartment. I dont just need God to be- I need God to do something

For centuries people have discussed the existence or lack of an almighty presence within the universe.  Now one man is setting out to prove that God might actually be a lot closer than we think in an examination of believers, disbelievers, and unbelievable circumstances. Over the course of two weekends, Mr. Broccoli will inhabit the animals of Eden, the prodigal son, grandmothers, mothers, priests, preachers wives, and of course, God.  Every night the show will open with a different performer sharing their thoughts on God.  In addition, the audience will have opportunities to shape the performance as its happening by adding their own thoughts.
